New Delhi – The Global Trade & Technology Council (India) – GTTCI successfully facilitated a high-level visit of H.E. Mr. Nazar Mirjan Al-Assadi, Charge d’Affaires, Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, along with the Health Attaché of the Embassy, to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) on July 19th, 2025.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and world-class medical expertise, stands as one of India’s leading multi-specialty hospitals, serving top decision-makers, heads of state, and patients from across the globe. The visit aimed to explore direct institutional partnerships that can make India a preferred destination for medical tourism from Iraq, eliminating the involvement of intermediaries and ensuring transparent, ethical, and affordable healthcare access.

During the visit, Dr. Rashmi Saluja, Chairperson of GTTCI, introduced the delegation to Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman, Board of Management, SGRH. GTTCI Founder President Dr. Gaurav Gupta highlighted the immense potential for structured collaboration, noting that over 3,000 Iraqi patients already travel to India annually but often through unregulated channels. Dr. Saluja proposed that GTTCI act as a dedicated healthcare facilitator between the Ministry of Health of Iraq and SGRH, ensuring direct government-to-hospital coordination.

H.E. Mr. Al-Assadi expressed deep appreciation for India’s advanced medical infrastructure and expertise, acknowledging its potential to meet Iraq’s growing healthcare needs, particularly in critical and tertiary care. The discussions covered a broad range of collaborative initiatives, including:

- Direct facilitation of treatment for Iraqi patients requiring unavoidable surgeries and advanced care.
- Introduction of telemedicine-based OPD services for underserved regions in Iraq.
- Establishment of diagnostic centres and pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution hubs in Iraq.
- Capacity-building programs for Iraqi doctors, nurses, and paramedics in India, with a focus on super-specialty disciplines.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards building an ethical, transparent, and mutually beneficial healthcare partnership between India and Iraq, aimed at enhancing patient care, medical education, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical cooperation.
