A VISION FOR SPORTS, NATION-BUILDING & YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
Over the last few years, GTTCI has expanded its outreach into sports diplomacy, youth development, athlete support systems, and international sports cooperation. The landmark moment in this journey came when GTTCI appointed Padma Shri Yogeshwar Dutt — Olympic Medallist, World Champion, and one of India’s most celebrated wrestlers — as its Ambassador for Sports. This partnership signified not only a new chapter for GTTCI but also a massive step toward establishing India as a global sports powerhouse.
The strategic decision was further reinforced by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between GTTCI and the Yogeshwar Dutt Wrestling Academy (YDWA), an institution that has been transforming rural sports talent into global champions. YDWA, founded and nurtured by Yogeshwar Dutt himself, stands today as one of India’s leading training centres for young wrestlers. What makes this partnership unique is the deep personal involvement of Dr. Saluja, who played a critical role in strengthening the academy’s foundations, supporting its young athletes, and contributing to its growing national footprint.

Together, GTTCI and YDWA have created a powerful platform for India’s sporting future. Their collaboration extends far beyond ceremonial roles. It involves athlete support, international sports exchange, global recognition for Indian athletes, and an active contribution to national sports achievements.
“VIJAYI BHAWA”: A GRAND CELEBRATION OF INDIA’S ASPIRING CHAMPIONS
The “Vijayi Bhawa” programme, held on 12th October 2025 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Center, Janpath, New Delhi, marked a significant moment in India’s youth sporting landscape. The presence of senior dignitaries underscored the event’s national importance. Shri Prasad Mahankar, National Organisation Minister of Krida Bharati, played a key role in uniting stakeholders dedicated to strengthening India’s grassroots sports ecosystem. Shri Gaurav Gautam, Youth Sports Minister of Haryana, addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and highlighted Haryana’s crucial contribution to wrestling and youth sports.

One of the most honoured guests was Smt. P.T. Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Member of Parliament, and an iconic figure in Indian athletics. Her presence symbolised official endorsement and recognition of India’s rising sporting stars.

The event served as a grand send-off for India’s 223-member contingent—103 male and 120 female athletes—competing at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain. Each athlete received blessings, warm wishes, and motivational support. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Nayab Saini, sent a special message praising their determination.

INDIA’S HISTORIC PERFORMANCE AT THE ASIAN YOUTH GAMES 2025

The Asian Youth Games 2025, held from 22nd to 31st October in Manama, Bahrain, redefined India’s standing in the world of youth sports. Under the stellar leadership of Padma Shri Yogeshwar Dutt as the Chef de Mission, India achieved its best-ever medal tally, securing 48 medals — 13 Gold, 18 Silver, and 17 Bronze — and finishing 6th overall among the 45 participating nations.

This outstanding success is a testament not only to the hard work of the athletes but also to the leadership, mentorship, and moral guidance provided by Yogeshwar Dutt. His understanding of sport at the highest level, combined with his humility and ability to connect with young athletes, played a crucial role in motivating the contingent.

The Games marked a triumphant return after a 12-year gap, bringing renewed enthusiasm and competition from across Asia. India’s contingent of 222 athletes, including a higher representation of women at 119, showcased remarkable versatility and dominance across twenty disciplines — from athletics and boxing to kabaddi, judo, kurash, swimming, wrestling, and weightlifting.

India’s medal journey began with a beautiful moment of promise. Khushi, a 15-year-old kurash athlete, secured India’s first medal — a bronze in the 70kg category. This breakthrough was followed by Ranjana Yadav’s silver in the 5000m race walk, signaling India’s rising performance in athletics. Soon after, the Girls’ Kabaddi Team clinched India’s first gold medal, defeating Iran in an electrifying final — a moment that ignited national celebration.

A historic milestone came when Priteesmita Bhoi, a young weightlifting prodigy, captured India’s first individual gold by setting a world youth record in the girls’ 44kg clean and jerk category. Her performance not only showcased India’s strength in weightlifting but also became a landmark moment in the Games.

The final day of the Games turned out to be one of the greatest in India’s youth sports history. The contingent secured 15 medals in a single day, including seven gold, across boxing, beach wrestling, freestyle wrestling, kabaddi, and weightlifting. Among the standout gold medallists were boxers Khushi Chand, Ahaana Sharma, Chandrika Pujari, and Anshika; beach wrestlers Anjali, Sani Fulmali, and Arjun Ruhil; and freestyle wrestlers Moni, Yashita, and Jaiveer Singh.

India’s performance in kabaddi remained unstoppable, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams securing gold and cementing the nation’s continued dominance in this traditional sport. The overall performance reflected a deep talent base that has been steadily nurtured by India’s sporting infrastructure — including institutions like the Yogeshwar Dutt Wrestling Academy.
GTTCI Chairperson Dr. Rashmi Saluja congratulated every athlete, praising their resilience, mental toughness, and discipline. She described India’s performance as a “shining reflection of the passion, energy, and determination that define Indian youth,” and credited the leadership of Yogeshwar Dutt for guiding the contingent towards historic success.

This edition of the Asian Youth Games also served as a qualifier for the Youth Olympics 2026 in Dakar, making India’s achievements even more significant. With rising stars emerging across multiple sports, India’s future at international youth events now looks more promising than ever.
THE CLOSING CEREMONY: CELEBRATING ASIA’S FUTURE CHAMPIONS

Their discussion revolved around India’s expanding sports ecosystem, opportunities to enhance sports diplomacy, collaborative development programs for youth, and the future of Asian sporting cooperation. The nation’s athletes displayed extraordinary talent, determination, and technical excellence across multiple disciplines.

As Uzbekistan prepares to host the Asian Youth Games 2029 in Tashkent, the success of 2025 served as a strong indicator of the nation’s readiness, both in terms of athletic capability and organisational leadership. During the closing ceremony, Mr. Umarov Otabek Muhammadaliyevich, First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia, delivered an inspiring address celebrating his nation’s success and outlining their vision for the 2029 Games.

A special highlight connected to India-Uzbekistan sporting relations was the collaboration with 7 Saber, the official merchandise partner for Team Uzbekistan. Earlier in July 2025, Padma Shri Yogeshwar Dutt was officially appointed as the Brand Ambassador of 7 Saber in India during a ceremonial unveiling of the brand’s official jacket. This partnership symbolised the growing bridge of sports exchanges between the two countries and highlighted the mutual respect shared between India and Uzbekistan.
